software binary code computerSoftware-defined networking (SDN) company Embrane has raised $14m in a Series C round led by Cisco.

New investor Presidio Ventures also participated in the round alongside existing backers Lightspeed Venture Partners, New Enterprise Associates (NEA) and North Bridge Venture Partners.

Embrane said it will invest the funds in its network services, enhance its go-to-market strategy and expand support for third-party virtual network service appliances.

The Series C round brought Embrane’s fundraising total to $41m.

Presidio Ventures CEO Shunichi Aramaki said, “We are always looking for innovative technologies that can enable new solutions. For the SDN market, which we believe is poised for significant growth, Embrane is the only purpose built end-to-end solution.

“After careful analysis, it became clear Embrane has a unique offering that not only enable first movers, but also bridges any size traditional networks to transition to SDN without operational disruption – all of which are important to its continued leadership in the space.”

Earlier this month two of Embrane’s backers, NEA and Lightspeed, renewed their commitment to data integration business MuleSoft by leading a $50m financing round.
