CPPIB buys into Oak Hill’s Berlin Packaging through recapitalisation deal


Pension fund giant CPPIB has teamed with Oak Hill Capital for a recapitalisation of Berlin Packaging.

Oak Hill Capital Partners picked up Berlin Packaging in 2014 through a buyout from Investcorp which valued the company at more than $1.4bn at the time.

The business, which was founded in 1898, provides services including structural and brand design, worldwide sourcing, warehousing and logistics and capital financing.

Berlin Packaging has annual sales approaching $2.5bn, with its services including structural packaging and brand design, sustainability solutions, worldwide sourcing, global warehousing and logistics, and quality and lab testing services.

CPP Investments managing director Sam Blaichman said, “Berlin Packaging’s growth and commitment to innovation continues to deliver value for its customers and suppliers, making the company a good fit for our long-term investment strategy.”

Oak Hill managing partner Brian Cherry added, “We started our partnership with Berlin Packaging back in 2014.

“The company now operates on four continents and continues to be a best-in-class business.”
