Chuck E Cheese restaurants explore sale to private equity

Chuck E CheeseThe owner of renowned US family pizza restaurant chain Chuck E Cheese is reportedly exploring a sale of the business to private equity.

The Texas-based company, which has a market capitalisation of about $760m, has spoken to several interested buyers over the past few months according to Reuters, which cited people familiar with the matter.

Chuck E Cheese was launched in 1977 and now has more than 560 restaurants across 47 US states, most of which are owned and operated by the company.

Last year private equity firm Roark Capital Group bought casual dining restaurant chain Miller’s Ale House from founder Jack Miller, KarpReilly and SKM Equity Fund III.

Sun Capital Partners recently made eight-times its initial investment by exiting Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant to mid-market firm Centre Partners.
