Carlyle collects majority stake in North American tour operator Bonotel


coaches_sqGlobal buyout giant The Carlyle Group has picked up a majority stake in North American tour operator Bonotel Exclusive Travel.

Bonotel works with a network of more than 2,200 hotel partners and provides more than 1,500 international tour operators with electronic access to its offerings in the US, Canada and the Caribbean.

The private equity firm tapped its $1.1bn Carlyle Equity Opportunity Fund, which focuses on mid-market buyouts, for the deal.

Carlyle managing director Adam Glucksman said, “Bonotel is a market leader in the luxury receptive tour operator space and provides a compelling value proposition to its hotel partners and international tour operators.

“We are excited to partner with David, Faisal and the Bonotel team, and look forward to supporting the Company’s continued growth through Carlyle’s global resources and industry expertise.”

Other Carlyle investments in the travel sector have included Brazil’s largest tour operator CVC Brasil, online travel agent Viator and student travel programme provider WorldStrides.
