Carlyle acquires Marelli Motori for €212m


italyflag_lrgPrivate equity major Carlyle has bought Italian motor and generator manufacturer Marelli Motori from British turnaround specialist Melrose for €212m.

Marelli Motori makes industrial generators and electric motors for the power generation, marine, oil & gas and industrial manufacturing sectors. It is headquartered in Vicenza with offices in Germany, UK, Spain, the US and South Africa.

Last year, the company posted an EBITDA of €22.2m on revenues of €149.1m, up 12.5 per cent from the previous year.

Co-head of Carlyle Europe Partners Marco De Benedetti said, “Marelli Motori is an outstanding Italian company that, thanks to the quality and competence of its management, has gone through a process of true internationalization enabling them to gain recognition and a strong market position in all of the major international markets in which they operate.”

In the meantime, Carlyle and Seven Group decided to retain their 46 per cent stakes in Coates Hire following a strategic review of the Australian equipment hire business.
