Blackstone acquires Texas power stations from Centrica


nuclear cooling towers powerPrivate equity major Blackstone has bought Texas-based gas-fired power stations with a combined capacity of 1,295MW from Centrica’s North American affiliate Direct Energy.

As part of the deal, Direct Energy has secured a three year call option for an equivalent amount of capacity with Blackstone.

The sale of the stations, which are located in Bastrop, Frontera and Paris, is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2014.

Earlier this month Blackstone-backed hotel company Hilton Worldwide raised $2.35bn via an IPO.
