ECI Partners gets 6x return from CarTrawler exit

car headlightsq_lrgPrivate equity firm ECI Partners has exited its investment in Dublin-based car rental technology company CarTrawler to BC Partners for a return of six times.

Insight Venture Partners is acquiring a minority stake, while the management team will retain a significant shareholding, BC said in a statement.

CarTrawler chas more than 1,000 partners in the travel industry including airlines, OTAs and other online travel related operators, connecting end customers to more than 1,200 suppliers across 30,000 pickup locations.

It also operates online car rental sites under the Holiday Autos and Argus Car Hire brands.

BC noted that it made a successful investment in airline booking technology business Amadeus in 2005.

BC senior partner Matthew Tooth said, “CarTrawler offers a truly unique proposition to its online travel partners, enabling them to optimise the revenue potential from car rental through offering end customers access to an unrivalled breadth of rental options across many suppliers.

“For suppliers, CarTrawler facilitates access to many distribution channels that would otherwise not be available.”

Earlier this month it was reported that BC Partners had picked banks to run an IPO of its Swedish telecoms cable operator Com Hem, which could value the company at more than $3.1bn.
