Samsung, Qualcomm Ventures and Lab IX are part of an investment party that has raised $12.5m for 3D-on-mobile devices provider Mantis Vision.
The Israel-based company secured the cash through a strategic investment round and will use it to develop its MV4D platform, which captures and edits “vivid” 3D data at scale for mobiles.
Qualcomm hopes its stake in Mantis will enable the company to speed up the development and adoption of new 3D technologies for mobile devices and the applications running on them.
Senior director Mony Hassid said, “Insight from Qualcomm should help MV4D give mobile device manufacturers, app developers and creative professionals the tools they need to deploy next generation 3D technology and applications for the public at large.”
Lab IX head Lior Susan (YES) noted Mantis’ skill at achieving a viral online presence, “We believe that mobile 3D capture will become an increasingly important, if not primary, means of communication.
“The Mantis Vision team has proven its ability to create 3D technology and products that deliver.”
Another recent investment from Samsung’s venture capital arm includes backing high-performance thin film maker Inpria Corporation, which announced it had raised $7.3m in February this year.
