London private equity firm Bridgepoint has acquires Lumison, a UK IT services provider, through its development capital arm.
The deal will see Bridgepoint Development Capital take a majority stake in the company as the first step in building a larger IT services group focusing on the SME sector. Mark Howling, a former senior executive with Computacentre and CEO of an earlier Bridgepoint IT investment, is to become executive chairman of the business.
Based in Edinburgh and London, Lumison operates in the managed data centre services and hosting market. It typically provides managed services where it acts as the outsourced partner responsible for managing clients’ IT infrastructure, hosting IT hardware in physical facilities, providing “cloud” based infrastructure services and offering network managed services which allow clients to connect securely to the internet and other locations.
Howling said, “There are very few medium-sized service providers capable of offering clients one trusted partner to meet all of their IT and networking needs which is what customers say they want. The acquisition of Lumison gives us a real opportunity to build such a player.”
Bridgepoint is also reportedly looking to regain control of Alliance Medical, as the UK diagnostic imaging company faces being taken over by it lenders.
