Advent International is looking to make moves in the consumer sector, in particular the food and beverage space, having last week announced the addition of former Dunkin’ Donuts head Will Kussell. The private equity firm’s new focus has now been underpinned with the hire of John Sheppard, who worked for the globally recognised Coca-Cola for two decades.
Sheppard, who in his new role as operating partner will advise Advent on investment opportunities, served as the iconic soft drink company’s European president and vice president of Coca-Cola International.
He led the integration and assimilation of a number of major acquisitions into ongoing businesses, including Cadbury Schweppes and Orangina.
Most recently, Sheppard was executive partner at Emigrant Capital, where he oversaw the firm’s investments in Forward Foods, Robeks Juice, Jolt Energy, Zola Açai and Boylan Beverages. Before that, he worked with Cott Corporation – the largest private label carbonated soft drink manufacturer in North America, with over $1.5bn in revenue – from 2002 to 2006.
Advent principal Jefferson Case said, “John has a long history of creating value for both branded and private label companies in the consumer goods market. We look forward to capitalising on John’s domestic and international leadership experience and enlisting his help in encouraging operational improvements alongside management in our portfolio companies.”
Advent earlier this week closed the largest private equity fund dedicated to Latin America raised to date, with $1.65bn in investor commitments.
