San Jose Spiders Ultimate Frisbee team pick up Lightspeed Venture Partners sponsorship


San Jose SpidersLightspeed Venture Partners has thrown its backing behind Ultimate Frisbee team the San Jose Spiders by agreeing to become its sponsor for the 2014 season.

The Spiders are named after an internet terms for bots which crawl through the web looking for data for search engines.

Lightspeed partner Peter Nieh said, “Lightspeed has a long history of backing extraordinary teams.

“We are thrilled to back the Spiders, a startup homegrown right here in Silicon Valley with some of the best players in the world.

“Lightspeed is also proud to support the sport of Ultimate which exemplifies the spirit of entrepreneurship: high energy, creativity and passion combined with great teamwork.”

Spiders owner Andrew Zill added, “Ultimate is a sport filled with players that work in technology and startups.

“For instance, Google co-founder Sergey Brin, WhatsApp co-founders Brian Acton and Jan Koum, Pebble founder Eric Migicovsky, and Quora co-founder Charlie Cheever are all Ultimate players.
