Ares Management could seek IPO within months

Alternative asset manager Ares Management is considering a potential IPO, becoming the latest investment firm to try its luck on the listed markets, Reuters reported.

Ares has approximately $59bn of committed capital under management across private debt, capital markets and private equity strategies.

According to the FT, the IPO could take place within the next few months, with Bank of America Merrill Lynch and JPMorgan Chase & Co being considered as underwriters.

Ares was founded in 1997, as a spin out from Apollo Global Management, which Ares founders John Kissick Tony Ressler launched alongside Leon Black.

After becoming fully independent firm in 2002, it raised its first dedicated private equity and private debt funds in 2003 and 2004.

The firm is one of the largest loan investors and alternative asset managers in the US.
