Strategic Value Partners has hired Goldman Sachs Asset Management’s global client business head Matt Gibson as president, handing the industry veteran responsibility for client relations, infrastructure and strategic development across its $22bn alternatives platform.
Gibson will join SVP in February 2027 and report to founder and CIO Victor Khosla. He will sit on both the firm’s management and investment committees.
He currently oversees more than 1,000 sales and product specialists spanning Goldman’s institutional, wealth and insurance distribution channels, the firm said.
Gibson has spent more than 25 years at Goldman Sachs, including 16 as a partner, and has led the global client business within Goldman Sachs Asset Management since 2022.
His earlier roles included leading Goldman’s power and infrastructure investment banking team, serving as global co-head of investment banking client coverage and co-head of its technology, media and telecommunications group.
That investment background will also feed into his new role. Although Gibson will lead SVP’s non-investment operations, the firm said he will participate in deal sourcing in sectors including power and infrastructure.
SVP invests across performing and event-driven debt, hybrid capital, infrastructure, real estate, power, aviation and special situations private equity.
The firm manages about $22bn and has invested more than $60bn since its foundation in 2001.
