European private equity firm Permira has appointed Veronica Eng as the new head of its Asia operations following the retirement of Guido Paolo Gamucci. Gamucci originally set up Permira’s Tokyo office in 2005, later coordinating the launch of its Hong Kong office. He reportedly stood down at the end of last year, after announcing to investors in June his intention to retire.
Eng, who is originally from Singapore, will be responsible for both offices, in addition to her responsibilities as a member of the firm’s executive and management groups, as well as acting as fund minder of Permira Europe I, Permira Europe II, Permira Europe III and Permira IV. She is also a member of Permira’s investment committee, and will act as its chairman from June 2010.
Eng is one of the founding partners of Permira, and has been with the firm since its inception in 1985. Prior to joining the firm, Eng was head of corporate finance at Schroder Investment Bank in Singapore.
Permira is an internationally focused private equity firm with offices in Frankfurt, Guernsey, Hong Kong, London, Luxembourg, Madrid, Milan, New York, Paris, Stockholm, Tokyo and Menlo Park, California. Last week, the firm sold off its remaining 10.1 per cent stake in German mobile telecoms company Freenet.
