UK mid-market buyout house Graphite Capital has promoted three senior partners, one partner and an investment manager and hired a trio of investment executives to “enhance its investment capability”.

All three new senior partners had taken part in Graphite’s recent deals. James Markham (pictured) was involved in the firm’s U-POL exit in July which scored a 4.5x return, Omar Kayat led its acquisition of personalised children books publishing platform Wonderbly, while Humphrey Baker headed the investment in cyber security provider Babble Cloud.

New investment manager Zoe Jackson worked in the Higher Ed International deal, while new partner John Western took part in the purchase of UK software quality assurance and testing provider Ten10.

The firm also brought in Edgar Borg Rodriguez from Rothschild & Co where he worked on transactions in the TMT sector for private equity and corporate clients. Tom Llewellyn joined Graphite after five years with PwC working on mid-market deals in the transaction services team. Alex Hearne worked in the investment banking team at Citigroup covering M&A, debt and equity transactions in a variety of sectors before joining Graphite.

Graphite raised £470m at the final close of its ninth UK mid-market fund in 2018, just surpassing the £450m it secured for Fund VIII. A total of 25 investors committed to the vehicle of which 75% were previous Graphite investors.
