Silver Lake launches $75m late-stage tech fund

Technology-focused private equity firm Silver Lake has started raising a $75m fund aimed at late stage pre-IPO companies, according to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

Silver Lake Waterman has already raised almost $18m through 28 investors according to the filing, and hopes to raise additional capital through the US Small Business Administration (SBA).

The firm, which was founded in 1999, has about $14bn of assets under management across large cap, mid-market, debt investing and energy and resource innovation in the technology sector.

It is understood the firm could raise an additional $150m in capital for the fund through the SBA, according to a report by Forbes.

Shawn O’Neill, previously of Bandon Partners investment bank, and Lighthouse Capital co-founder Rick Stubblefield have been hired to manage the San Francisco-based fund.

Last month Silver Lake led an $81m equity financing round into renewable energy company SolarCity.
