Twitter, the popular US-based micro-blogging service, has raised just over $5m in series E preferred and common stock.
The company, which has been adopted by a host of high-profile celebrities to voice their thoughts, previously raised $98.2m in series E financing, and has reportedly raised over $160m in total.
Twitter’s investors include Insight Venture Partners, Benchmark Capital, Institutional Venture Partners, Morgan Stanley, Spark Capital.
Based in San Francisco, the company is a privately funded start-up that was set up as a side project in March of 2006. The company has grown into a ubiquitous real-time short messaging service that works over multiple networks and devices.
At the time of a $35m capital raise in February 2009, Twitter reported an increase of 900 per cent in active users in the year running up to that funding.
