Matrix Partners, based in Massachusetts has become the twelfth private equity firm to raise $1bn this year.
This latest fund is the firm’s seventh. Matrix Partners VI closed last year at $530m. The firm will make a formal announcement of the new fund’s closure later this summer, according to a report on VentureWire.
The firm, going since 1977, specialises in early-stage companies in the networking, storage, software, computing and semiconductor industries.
Last year, 18 firms raised $1bn or over. So far this year, Apax has raised $4bn and other firms raising at least $1bn include Austin Ventures and US Venture Partners.© AltAssets, 2001
