A former marketing executive for Apple has joined venture capital firm Opus Capital as a general partner, according to reports.
Bob Borchers had been at Apple since 2004, and worked on products such as the iPod and iPhone. He left his job as senior director of worldwide marketing for the iPhone last week, according to a Wall Street Journal blog.
Borchers, a former executive at Nokia and Nike, told the WSJ that Opus had offered him the chance to join and invest in mobile technology, an opportunity he could not pass up.
He added that he intends to look at areas like wireless and medicine and mobile marketing technologies, and described the decision to join the firm as a “no-brainer”.
Menlo Park, California-based Opus raised its last fund, the Opus Capital Fund in 2006 with $280m in assets. Borchers will reportedly be investing out of that fund.
