The 47-year-old was a key member of the team which worked on the sale of Elisabeth Murdoch’s independent TV production company Shine Group to News Corp, according to Reuters, and also worked on the latter’s failed bid for the UK’s BSkyB.
It said Hampson had led JP Morgan’s EMEA tech, media and comms team since 2002 and was on the European equity capital markets and equities syndicate desk in the 1990s.
Hampson will take the place of 20-year FSG veteran Karen Simon, who is moving back to the US to become vice chairwoman of investment banking for the global oil and gas department.
Reuters said Markus Boser and David Lomer will become co-heads of technology, media and telecoms following Hampson’s move.
