Oregon State Treasury has reportedly created a new position of director of alternative investments, which will be filled by current senior investment officer John Hershey.
Hershey will be in charge of Oregon’s alternative, opportunistic, real estate and private equity strategies, said peHUB, citing an internal memo sent to staff on Friday. He will assume control of the Treasury’s private equity portfolio, which is currently managed by outgoing private equity head Jay Fewel, who is set to retire next month.
Hershey’s team will include senior investment officer for real estate Tony Breault, investment officers for private equity Sam Green and Andy Hayes and Ben Mahon, who is currently part of Oregon’s public equities team, according to the report.
“Given the consistent success we have long enjoyed with our allocations to private equity, real estate and public equity, John and Perrin are inheriting a particularly effective group of investment professionals and practices,” CIO in the Treasurer’s office John Skjervem said in the memo.
“I am confident that better collaboration in and among our private and public market efforts can improve our overall results and extend Oregon’s distinguished tradition of investment excellence.”
