NVM Private Equity has appointed former North West Business Finance chief executive and LDC portfolio manager Andy Leach to its investment team, who will be based in Manchester and will have responsibility for sourcing new investment opportunities.
Leach has 26 years of private equity experience, with the last 20 being focused on the North West of England. He was previously CEO of North West Business Finance, which was an entity established to oversee The North West Fund, a £185m vehicle created to support SMEs in the North West region.
Prior to this he was a director of LDC in Manchester, with prime responsibility for managing LDC’s Northern investment portfolio. He also established Montagu Capital, a sister company to Montagu Private Equity, set up to invest in UK-based businesses in the sub-£50m value range.
Leach first worked in the North West region in 3i’s Manchester office, where he spent 10 years as part of the investment team where his deals included the firm’s investment in Pets at Home.
In his early career he qualified as a chartered accountant with Coopers & Lybrand working in the London and Sydney offices, moving into private equity in 1986 with a stint at Australian fund Byvest.
“Andy is a very experienced investor with an excellent track record,” NVM Private Equity managing director Martin Green said in a statement released today.
“He has some strong contacts not only in the North but throughout the UK and I am sure he will bring an added dimension to the NVM offering.”
In November last year NVM announced it had made a 2.3-times return on its investment in property management services business Paladin Group, following a £15.9m sale of the company.
The following month the firm backed the management buyout of travel software company Intuitive, which it bought from Lowcosttravel Group.
