Macquarie’s investment management division has hired Merrick McKay to lead the Sydney-based financial services firm’s European investments in its private markets team.
McKay will be based in London and will focus on MIM Private Markets’ (MIM) European investment strategy, including fund and direct private equity investments.
He was most recently a partner and COO with PEFOX, a UK business specialising in private equity secondary broking and derivatives activities.
Prior to this, he was a partner and member of the investment committee with Primary Capital, where he spent 13 years leading or co-leading direct investments in the management buyout and expansion capital sectors of the UK private equity market.
“[Merrick’s] addition enhances our emphasis on direct investment as a mechanism by which to add value to client portfolios and reduce the overall cost of private equity,” Michael Lukin, Head of MIM Private Markets, said in a statement.
MIM Private Markets has over £4.4bn assets under management globally, investing in primary funds, secondary investments and co-investments.
The division has 36 professionals dedicated to the management and servicing of private equity portfolios across seven offices in Australia, Asia, Europe and North America on behalf of large superannuation funds, institutional clients and endowment funds.
