Canada’s Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (CVCA) has appointed experienced executive and former political advisor Mike Woollatt as its first chief executive officer.
Prior to joining CVCA, Woollatt, pictured, co-founded management consulting company Beaconsfield Group and held senior executive roles at major Canadian corporations including Bell Canada, CTVglobemedia, and Canwest Global Communications.
He has also worked as a political advisor at the Department of Finance and as an economist on international development projects.
CVCA said that the appointment and the creation of the new position “reflects the evolution of the association and the influence of the venture capital and private equity industry in Canada.”
CVCA president Peter van der Velden said, “I am delighted to welcome Mike to the CVCA. Mike’s wide-ranging experience from Government to senior executive to entrepreneur will lend him well in his leadership role at the CVCA.”
Van der Velden is a managing general partner of Lumira Capital, which secured a $10m commitment for its second fund from the Government of Canada’s Venture Capital Action Plan programme.
