Battery brings in Netflix cloud infrastructure overseer as first ‘technology fellow’

7 Jan 2014

adrian-cockcroft-netflix-batteryThe computer programmer who led Netflix’s shift to an all-cloud infrastructure has been hired by Battery Ventures as a ‘technology fellow’.

Adrian Cockcroft will advise Battery on technology trends and issues, help with deal sourcing and due-diligence and speak at events around the globe, the firm said.

It added that Cockroft was its first technology fellow, and said it intended the position to be a long-term engagement.

Cockcroft, who began his new job last week, said, “I am thrilled to be joining Battery, one of the pioneers in investing in the cloud-computing space and a firm whose internal culture mirrors Netflix’s.

“Both firms are very open to trying new things.”

Cockcroft worked for Sun Microsystems for 16 years before joining Netflix.

Last year Battery Ventures, one of Silicon Valley’s most established technology investors, reportedly raised $900m across two separate vehicles.

The firm, which has been an early backer in high-profile businesses such as Groupon and ExactTarget, raised a $650m vehicle and a separate $250m side fund according to the Wall Street Journal.
