AXA Private Equity has hired former Citi Infrastructure Investors investment principal Juan Angoitia as a managing director in its Paris-based infrastructure team.
Angoitia, who has more than 15 years of experience in the infrastructure industry, comes six months after AXA PE raised a €1.75bn fund for investments in the asset class, its largest infrastructure vehicle to date.
That fund is already substantially committed according to AXA, which said it was most recently used for the acquisition of London Luton Airport alongside airport operating giant AENA.
AXA PE infrastructure head Mathias Burghardt said, “I am extremely pleased to welcome Juan to our growing Infrastructure team.
“His extensive industrial experience in infrastructure, and particularly in the airport sector, will prove invaluable to our existing and future investments.
“We continue to see a high demand for infrastructure as an asset class, particularly core infrastructure assets which offer protection against inflation and low volatility.
“We will continue to source high quality opportunities, especially through proprietary deals, assisted by our excellent visibility across Europe.”
Angoitia previously spent a decade at Grupo Ferrovial after beginning his career at Cintra as part of its toll road management team in Chile.
He was also involved in the acquisition and management of Cintra’s investments in airports including Sydney International, Bristol International in the UK and ASUR in Mexico.
Angoitia said, “AXA Private Equity has a tremendous track-record in European infrastructure, emphasized by its ability to successfully fundraise amid such a challenging economic backdrop.
“We expect to see a rise in the number of transportation assets coming onto the market through government and corporate asset sales, and I look forward to helping the team capitalize on these and further opportunities.”
