Global venture capital giant Accel Partners has appointed gaming expert John Earner as entrepreneur-in-residence at its London office.
The former Playfish employee, who oversaw the release and management of computer games including The Sims Social, will turn his talents to helping Accel find and boost companies with the potential to create the next Angry Birds.
Accel partner Kevin Comolli said, “John has a unique background building and scaling social gaming businesses.
“As an early investor in Playfish, we had the opportunity to work closely with him and we’re delighted to bring him on board.”
Earner previously oversaw product and business development for the Playstation Network at Sony Entertainment America, and was project leader at the Boston Consulting Group advising clients on gaming and digital media.
He began his career in the US Navy, where he served as an officer for four years, before turning his attention to gaming.
Earlier this month Accel led a €6m financing round in mobile gaming company flaregames to scale the company and attract additional talent.
