California venture capital firm Peate Ventures has raised $3m towards its $5m target for its Buenaventura Fund through contributions from 13 LPs, according to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
The fund is seeking investments in seed and early stage companies in the West Coast region of the US. It focuses on the healthcare, entertainment, real estate and technology space.
The firm’s notable investments include Los Angeles comic book and graphic novel publisher Boom! Studios and online healthcare portal Hixme (Health Insurance Exchange), which went live in October 2013.
Peate Ventures is headed by its founder Dan Peate, who previously developed senior housing in partnership with Beijing Construction & Engineering Group, Griffin Real Estate Management and EXIM Bank of China.
