GTCR plans to invest $450m, while Bergeron will contribute $50m to the partnership.
Bergeron, pictured, served as CEO of global payments technology group VeriFone for 12 years from 2001 when he led the company’s acquisition from Hewlett-Packard.
The company, which posted revenues of almost $1.9bn last year, was backed by GTCR in 2002.
GTCR managing director Aaron Cohen said, “GTCR has deep sector expertise in the financial technology and payments industries.
“Drawing on our track-record and continued focus in this sector, we believe there are a number of compelling industry trends that we are excited to capitalize on with Mr. Bergeron.
“Moreover, the amount of equity capital allocated to Opus Global will enable GTCR, alongside Doug Bergeron, to consider and pursue a wide array of acquisitions, including the ability to undertake more sizeable transactions.”
GTCR is currently investing its tenth fund, which has $3.25bn of committed capital.
