Skype founder’s venture firm makes first investment in Brazil

29 Feb 2012

Skype founder Niklas Zennström’s international venture capital firm has made its first two investments in Brazil following recent activity in other Latin American countries.

London-based Atomico has invested $8.7m in the country’s leading online autoparts retailer, Connect Parts, and another $2.9m in internet mother and child retailer Bebê Store.

The firm has made more than 50 investments across four continents, and has opened offices in Sao Paulo and Beijing.

Atomico had previously invested in Latin American companies which operate in Brazil but are headquarted in other countries, including Uruguayan online food delivery service Pedidos Ya and Argentinian internet restaurant booker Restorando.

It said it aims to deliver outsized returns to investors by being the partner, and investor of choice, for fast-growing technology companies that will become global category winners.
