Skype founder’s Atomico backs mobile learning business Quipper

10 Mar 2014

education_lrgSkype founder Niklas Zennström’s venture capital firm Atomico has backed UK-based mobile learning company Quipper in the wake of sealing its latest target-busting fundraise.

Bennesse Holdings and Globis Capital Partners also took part in the £3.4m financing round for Quipper, which uses cloud-based web platforms to help users create educational content and monitor and assess student performance.

The funding round brings the total capital raised by Quipper to more than £10m.

Atomico confirmed a $476m final close for its latest fund in November 2013 thanks to LPs including the European Investment Fund.

AltAssets revealed earlier that month that the firm had easily beaten its €300m target for the fund, with $414m coming from non-US investors.

The firm later revealed its oversubscribed fund received commitments from across Asia, the US and Europe as it swelled to three-times the size of its previous vehicle.
