In addition, Saints Capital and Star Ventures Funds formed a partnership, allowing an affiliate of the Star Ventures Funds to manage certain assets, the firms said.
“We are delighted to announce our partnership with Star Ventures Administration and Dr. Barel. This deal is a perfect example of Saints’ ability to solve the wide array complex liquidity challenges and assist in restructuring under-managed private equity portfolios as well as winding-up end-of-life funds with mixed types of holdings across multiple geographies.” said Niko von Huetz, of Saints Capital.
This transaction is Saints Capital’s third portfolio deal in Europe after its 2006 acquisition of 3i’s mid-market buy-out and growth portfolio in partnership with the existing asset managers and its 2008 acquisition of minority growth equity interests in ten companies from Innovacom.
Since its founding, Saints has completed over 50 single-asset and portfolio transactions involving over 220 companies in venture, growth and mid-market buy-out stages. Over 30 per cent of the transactions were buy-out type situations with controlling interests.
Founded in 1992 as one of the first venture funds in Israel with $1bn under management, Star has led over 75 successful IPOs and M&As for portfolio companies including Acopia, Alvarion, BigBand, Broadbus, Ciena, Creo, Identify, Orckit, Precise, Sheer Networks and Topio.
