Redpoint Ventures leads $16m Series A for software company Looker Data Sciences

13 Aug 2013

data2_lrgRedpoint Ventures has led a $16m Series A round for business intelligence software company Looker Data Sciences, which has doubled its customer base after launching its Looker BI Platform in March this year.

First Round Capital and Looker’s seed investors also participated in the round.

Looker’s technology is a browser-based analytics platform for exploring and collaborating with data of any size. The company will use the funds to expand its sales team, hire more engineers and invest in operational infrastructure.

Redpoint principal Tomasz Tunguz said, “The next wave of innovation in big data is the democratization of data exploration, enabling every employee in an enterprise to ask and answer their own questions easily, without having to ask for the help of the data team.

“Looker’s product is exceptionally well-suited to catalyze that wave.”

Redpoint, which closed its early stage-focused Redpoint V vehicle on $400m in January this year, has recently participated in online video delivery business Qwilt’s $16m Series C.
