The investment is the first venture funding Datto has received since it launched in 2007, and will be used for international expansion, new product development and enhancing services according to the company.
General Catalyst managing partner Steve Herrod will join the Datto board following the investment, his first since being hired by the firm.
He said, “Virtualization is an essential technology for server applications, storage, networking, security and all aspects of the modern datacentre.
“Austin and the Datto team have created an innovative company that offers valuable solutions to its partners and serves as a true ally to the IT channel. This is an organization that I wanted to be a part of.”
The company offers advanced backup, disaster recovery and business continuity services which provide organizations with an easy to use and cost effective insurance policy against costly downtime, while significantly decreasing the likelihood of extended operational interruptions.
Earlier this year US-based General Catalyst brought in Yuchun Lee as a partner in its entrepreneur in residence programme to focus on software opportunities.
Lee, who co-founded Unica and is a former IBM executive, will work with the firm’s growth equity team to identify and build technology based companies with a focus on enterprise software and data analytics.
He joined existing EIR team members Paul Verrochi, Rob Gierkink, Charlie Baker, Tad Elmer, Chris Heim and Dan Mayleben.
