The Riverside Company has opened an office in Hong Kong, to be led by former president of Danaher China Brian Bunker, who has been appointed as managing director. The Hong Kong office is Riverside's third in Asia, following the establishment of the Tokyo and Seoul offices, in April and October 2007, respectively. In his new role, Bunker will work with Riverside portfolio companies to help them develop more effective Asian strategies, according to a firm. He will facilitate market research, manufacturing and sourcing advice, and sales and distribution recommendations throughout the region.
Riverside co-CEO Stewart Kohl said, 'We have long recognised the value of having feet on the ground where we do business. Adding resources in Asia helps our entire portfolio source goods and services on a pan-Asian basis, as well as tap the huge market potential that China and the rest of the region's rapidly growing economies represent.'
Bunker has lived in Asia for the past 20 years. At Danaher, he led the company's dental and product identification divisions, and also served as managing director, Asia Pacific of Danaher subsidiary Gilbarco.
'Brian comes to us with a firm understanding of the operating opportunities in Asia, as well as decades of experience with the cultures and languages of the region,' said Riverside co-CEO Béla Szigethy. 'His insight will be invaluable as we continue to build the Asia Fund and internationalise our European, North American and Asia investments.'
Last month, Riverside made its first investment in Korea when it acquired preschool education learning franchise Wiz Korea.
