Baird Venture Partners, the US-based venture capital affiliate of Baird Private Equity, has closed its third venture capital fund on over $170m, above its $150m target. Institutional investors include returning investors such as State of Wisconsin Investment Board, Lurie Investments, A. O. Smith Retirement Plan, Northwestern Mutual and Marshall & Ilsley Corporation. Among the new investors are American Family Insurance, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Sentry Insurance and the State of Illinois Treasurer's Office of Technology Development Account.
Paul J Carbone, director of Baird Private Equity and BVP managing partner, said, 'We are pleased to have received such strong support from our existing investors as well as many new limited partners.'
BVP invests in early and expansion stage companies operating in the business services and life sciences sectors. The firm invests up to $10m in equity over the life of an investment.
