Venture capital firm Walden International has appointed Bill Li as a managing director, based in the firm's Beijing office. In his new role he will focus on opportunities in the internet and communications sectors. Li has experience at Google, where he was responsible for the launch of mobile products and services, such as China Mobile.
He has also previously co-founded internet and mobile start-ups in both Silicon Valley and China, the firm said.
In addition, Yimin Zimmerer, in Shanghai, and Dr Hing Wong, in Beijing, were also promoted to managing directors.
Zimmerer focuses on investments in the communications, cleantech and medical services sectors, also targeting emerging technology and service opportunities.
Dr Wong specialises in investments in the semiconductor, components and cleantech sectors.
Lip-Bu Tan, chairman, WI, said, 'The diverse industry focus of each of these managing directors gives our firm an unparallel advantage in competing for investment opportunities in China. Their individual strengths in the mobile communications, internet, semiconductor, cleantech and emerging technology and service areas provide us deep domain knowledge.'
WI targets investments in the US and Asia. The firm has offices in San Francisco, Palo Alto, Singapore, Bangalore, Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong.
In February 2007, WI closed its Pacven Walden Ventures VI fund on $280m.
