US private equity giant Kohlberg Kravis Roberts has hired TWC Group's William Sonneborn as it seeks to further develop its asset management business. In his new role, Sonneborn will work closely with Scott Nuttall and the existing fixed income and capital markets teams to further develop the firm's asset management strategy, complimenting KKR's private equity activities, according to a statement.
He will also build and expand KKR's expertise by recruiting additional professionals, and will work with existing and potential investors and the public markets as a representative of KKR, the firm said.
Sonneborn will be based in San Francisco, working with KKR's teams in the US, Europe and Asia.
Most recently, Sonneborn was president and COO of investment management firm The TCW Group. Prior to that, he was at Goldman, Sachs & Co., primarily focused on marketing and executing corporate finance and M&A transactions for financial institutions.
Henry R Kravis and George R Roberts, co-founders of KKR, said, 'For some time, KKR has pursued a strategy of building upon our traditional private equity expertise to offer complementary businesses that provide value for investors. Toward that end, we have developed businesses in the credit markets and, more recently, in the capital markets. Bill Sonneborn will work closely with the credit and capital markets teams to build these and new asset management businesses over time.'
