European venture capital firm Wellington Partners has opened a new office in Palo Alto, California - the firm's fourth and its first outside Europe. The US office will help the firm's portfolio companies expand into the US market. The Palo Alto business development office is led by Ram Srinivasan, Silicon Valley entrepreneur and former CEO of Fireclick, who joined the Wellington team in 2006 as a venture partner.
Wellington general partner Frank Bohnke said, 'Wellington Partners invests in European technology entrepreneurs with global ambitions. To fulfil global ambitions, you definitely have to be successful in Silicon Valley, the hub of the technology universe. For many years, we have supported our entrepreneurs in expanding their network beyond Europe and into the US. It was a logical step for us to also expand our operations to establish a global footprint for the firm.'
With $1.2bn under management, Wellington now has offices in London, Munich, Zurich and Palo Alto. The firm invests in companies operating in the areas of IT, media convergence, cleantech and life sciences.
Wellington's investments have included Actelion, Alando, ImmobilienScout24, GameDuell, Questico, Seesmic and Truphone.
Wellington closed its latest fund, Wellington Partners IV Technology, a few months ago, on €265m.
