UK lower mid-market private equity firm Sovereign Capital has hired two new investment professionals, Taha Hasan and Tom Matthews. The appintments bring the number of people in the investment team to 19. Hasan has joined the team as an investment manager. Previously, he was at Summit Partners, where he was responsible for identifying companies and establishing relationships with their senior management and owners to source proprietary deal flow. Earlier on in his career, Hasan worked as a strategy consultant at Deloitte Consulting.
Matthews, the new investment executive, joins Sovereign from the corporate finance team at Macquarie Bank. At Macquarie, he focused on healthcare acquisitions. Prior to that, Matthews was at Deloitte Corporate Finance.
Sovereign managing partner Andrew Hayden said, 'Both Taha and Tom bring excellent credentials and valuable experience to Sovereign and will further strengthen the direct origination and investment expertise in the team.'
Sovereign has made eight transactions this year to date, including the platform investments of WCLS and Paragon in the education and training sector.
Sovereign focuses on sectors including healthcare services, education and training and various sub-sectors within the business support services sector. The firm has £450m under management.
