UK-based private equity firms invest £32bn in 2007, BVCA report shows26/06/2008. Source: AltAssets.
Investment by member firms of the British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association showed an underlying increase of more than one third in 2007, according to the 2007 Report on Investment Activity published by the BVCA in conjunction with PricewaterhouseCoopers. The total investment amount was up to £31.6bn in 2007 from £21.9bn in 2006. However, it needs to be taken into consideration that one reason for the increase is that the 2007 figure is based on a 214-strong BVCA membership, whereas in 2006 the BVCA counted 192 member firms. Adjusting for this, the underlying increase is 37 per cent rather than the 45 per cent rise indicated above.
Investments were made in 1,680 UK and overseas companies in total, compared to 1,630 in 2006 and 1,535 in 2005.
On the fundraising side, BVCA members raised £29.3bn in 2007, down from the £34.3bn raised in 2006 but up from the £27.3bn raised in 2005. With £7.3bn, UK investors committed the most capital to funds after North American investors, with £12.2bn.
