Permira to exit personal protection equipment business Aearo Technologies

Click here for the latest news, views and interviews in the clean energy investor communityPermira has agreed to sell Aearo Technologies, a specialist in the personal protection industry, to 3M for $1.2bn.

Aearo manufactures and sells hearing protection devices, communication headsets, non-prescription and prescription safety eyewear, face shields, reusable and disposable respirators, fall protection equipment and hard hats.

Permira acquired the company about a year and a half ago for $765m from Bear Stearns Merchant Banking.

Permira recently named Damon Buffini chairman of the European-based buy-out group. Kurt Björklund, the head of Permira's Stockholm office, and Tom Lister, the head of the New York office, have become co-managing partners.
