 The Center for Financial Services Innovation in the US has established a private equity fund that will invest in early growth stage companies operating in the financial services sector. The CFSI Catalyst Fund will be managed by Arjan Schütte, CFSI's associate director overseeing investment programmes.
As with CFSI's previous investments, the Catalyst Fund's strategy is to add value by building a syndicate of additional investors, as well as providing assistance to its portfolio companies.
Schütte said, 'The Catalyst Fund is a unique opportunity for CFSI to influence the direction of the financial services industry while supporting our broader work. We are putting our money where our mouth is - our successful initial investments show that companies which address the long-term interests of underbanked consumers can generate material profits.'
KeyBank and the Ford Foundation are the investors in the fund.
CFSI is a non-profit affiliate of ShoreBank Corporation and facilitates financial services industry efforts to serve underbanked consumers. It provides funding and resources, enables partnerships, and identifies, develops and distributes authoritative information on how to respond to the needs of the underbanked profitably and responsibly.
