Just 16 trading companies were listed on the UK’s Initial Public Offering (IPO) market in 2003, the lowest figure for a decade. But the volume of IPOs is set to increase in the next year, according to KPMG Corporate Finance.
‘2003 has been another tough year for the UK’s main market,’ commented Neil Austin, head of new issues at KPMG Corporate Finance. ‘However, the market is open for business and a degree of confidence has emerged in the final quarter.’
‘A rising market over the last nine months and the availability of funds provides a platform for renewed confidence as we enter 2004,’ Austin continued. ‘We are seeing more companies starting their preparations, something no-one was willing to do a year ago.’
The report indicates that any upturn in the volume of IPOs is likely to be driven by private equity firms seeking to exit their investments.
