A number of private equity firms including Bain Capital and Providence Equity Partners are said to be circling the music publishing operations of media titan Time Warner. The business is expected to raise in the region of $1bn.
The media company is under pressure to pare its $24bn debt burden and has already sold its CD and DVD manufacturing businesses. Time Warner is also looking to sell its recorded music division before it sells the publishing operations, according to a report by Reuters.
Strategic buyer EMI is understood to be interested in acquiring the recorded music division and is likely to be prepared to pay a higher price for the business than a private equity firm. But EMI's pursuit of Warner Music is also likely to face regulatory challenges that may thwart a sale.
