 US Bessemer Ventures has recruited Peter Watkins as entrepreneur in residence. He will be responsible for helping the firm evaluate new investment opportunities and will also participate in the management and development of existing portfolio firms.
Watkins joins Bessemer from Resonate, a supplier of performance management solutions for business critical applications, where he served as CEO and president. He previously spent five years at Network Associates/McAfee, where he was responsible for sales, marketing and product development. Watkins has also worked for SunSoft, Apple and Micropro International.
‘Peter is just the kind of entrepreneur and proven CEO we love to back,' said David Cowan, general partner at Bessemer. ‘Some lucky Bessemer company will greatly benefit from Peter's leadership and expertise in data security and IT infrastructure.'
‘I've known David Cowan and Rob Chandra from Bessemer for a long time and they're very strong in the enterprise software and security market,' Watkins commented. ‘When they offered me the chance to join them, it just seemed like a natural fit.'
Bessemer Venture Partners was founded by the Phipps family in 1911 and currently manages over $1bn of assets. The firm has offices in New York, Massachusetts and California.
