Carlyle, RPK joint venture takes off

US private equity firm Carlyle and RPK Capital Management, an aircraft leasing and investment company, have formed a partnership to invest $600m in the aviation industry. The pair will acquire a gamut of assets, from aircraft and engines, to related securities and loans.

Blackstone bounces back with $360m Q1 net income

US private equity firm Blackstone has beat estimates for the first quarter of 2010 with earnings of $360m, compared to a loss of $82m during the same period in 2009. Reporting positive results across all divisions, the firm posted fee revenues of $99m, and claims that export and credit markets were on the rise and investor appetite for risk was returning.

21 April 2010 in $30m investment round, an online baby products retailer, has closed on a $30m series E round of financing led by New Enterprise Associates (NEA). Existing investors, Accel Partners, Bessemer Venture Partners and MentorTech Ventures, also participated.

Nova Capital exits smoke alarm company

UK secondaries firm Nova Capital Management has sold Detector Technology, a Chinese supplier of radioactive components for smoke alarms. The exit is the third from its QSA Group of companies, a set of businesses specialising in supplying radioactive sources. The total equity realised from the QSA Group companies is £100m (€114.9m), providing Nova with a cash-on-cash return of 7.4 times its original investment.
